Tips for Test Driving a Car

Introduction

Planning to buy a used car? Get started by doing your homework. You should get a ppsr check done immediately. The ppsr check comes with nominal fee which has to be paid after sharing the VIN or registration number of the car. The ppsr check can help you buy a good quality used car.

You should always test drive a car before buying it. The following are the key things to check out while test driving a car:

Check the Car’s Exterior and Interior

Before taking the car on a test drive, check the exterior and interiors. You should check if there are any paint patchworks on the exterior surface as they may indicate major accidents. See if the wheels and tyres are in good condition or not. Once you enter the car, check the comfort while seating. Ensure there is enough space in terms of legroom and headroom for all passengers. If you have toddlers, check the space for attaching child seats.

Test the Car’s Handling and Features

While driving the car, check the overall handling and maneuverability. Check if the acceleration is smooth and powerful. The brake system should work seamlessly without any noises, which would otherwise mean problems in the brake system. You should check if the steering wheel is responsive and smooth. The suspension is another important element to check. A car with bad suspension can make your ride uncomfortable and tiring.

Check the Technology Used

Cars come with plenty of technology. You should check the Bluetooth and pair your phone with it to see if how it works. Check the infotainment panel and its ease of use. The dashboard panel should be easily accessible to you while driving and you should not have to reach out excessively to access it. Check if the steering wheel layout is intuitive or cluttered for your liking. If you travel to new places, check if there is a navigation panel in the car and how easy it is to use.

Drive in Different Terrains

Try to drive the car in different terrains and see how it handles. You should drive it through congested city roads and also take it to a highway to see how it feels at higher speeds. If you are buying a used off-roader vehicle, then you must test drive in off-road conditions to check its suitability for yourself. Test driving the car in different types of roads and terrains will help you understand its compatibility based on your daily commute.

Try Parking in Congested Spaces

You should try to park the car in congested city spaces. Make sure the steering does not feel stiff and the car can be easily maneuvered while parallel parking. Parallel parking will give you a feel of how the car handles in reverse gear. If you experience jolting or grinding noises while shifting to reverse gear, then it can be caused due to a faulty transmission. The comfort of the car and its responsiveness in reverse gear also needs to be checked. City cars should be compact to park in cramped spaces. The parallel parking exercise will give you a good idea if the car is suitable for you or not.
