Every person has an experience, thoughts, or understanding about fast food. It is from hearsay, the Internet search, or running from the books that this type of meal is either horrible of great. Fast food is a kind of food cooked and provided quickly. It has become very popular nowadays calling for the need to outline the pros and cons as a way of creating awareness and enabling people to make an advised decision. This paper discusses the advantages and disadvantages of fast food.

The first advantage of fast food is that an individual can save money by buying it. The price of foodstuffs has grown to a high level that many cannot afford to go and eat in restaurants on a regular basis. When compared to other alternatives, fast food is cheap. Second, by buying fast food, one saves time. It does not take long to buy fast food since it is always ready. In cases where a person needs to wait, one needs a little time to prepare or serve the foodstuffs. It enables one to get something to eat when in a hurry. Fast food is convenient. It is served within walking distance from home, a few meters from the office, and they are available at any given time of the day. It helps when one has no time for lunch.

Fast food provides individuals with on–the-go meals. Recently, things are moving so fast that people prefer foodstuffs one can eat while doing other things like driving, working, or watching movies. They are easy foods with a wide range of variety enabling individual to choose. It eliminates boredom and allows taste and preference. The accessibility of fast food chains is another advantage the chains are available in both cities and rural areas. Also, most of the fast food businesses offer deliveries both at home and offices posting an advantage to their customers.

It is important to address the other side of the story concerning the disadvantages of fast food. Hotels and chains serve it in larger quantities than recommended. It is a disadvantage especially when served to persons with a big appetite since they end up consuming more than needed. Therefore, it is a threat to the health of the victims. The menus of fast food contain items that are high in fat. The biggest percentage of fast foods is deep fried such as donuts and French fries. It exposes the users to the risk of overweight, obesity, and other health issues. Fast food items contain large quantities of preservatives and food additives. They can cause cell damage. Taken frequently in an excessive amount, they can lead to an individual acquiring cancer. It is evident that most of the items served in fast food menus are high in sugar. A good example is cakes, ice cream, and pastries. Consuming sugar in large quantities can lead to blood sugar elevation or even diabetes. Fast food items contain a high volume of sodium. When taken excessively, fast food menus such as pizza, chips, and fries can lead to kidneys or cardiovascular diseases. It is because they contain high volumes of sodium from additives, preservatives, and added salt.

In conclusion, it is important to understand the content of what we eat to eliminate chances of health problems. Fast food has both advantages and disadvantages. It is budget-friendly, convenient, comfortable, accessible, and easy to use while doing other tasks. However, when a person is not careful, he or she can end up consuming more and more than the recommended. Also, it consists of a high volume of fat, preservatives, sugar, and sodium. These amounts cause a threat to the health of individuals. People should balance all the advantaged and disadvantages before deciding whether to buy fast foods or not.
