The IRS Announces When You Can File Your Taxes in 2022

The Internal Revenue Service said that the country's tax season would begin on Monday, January 24, 2022, when the tax agency begins receiving and processing 2021 tax year returns.

The January 24 start date for individual tax return filers gives the IRS time to undertake crucial programming and testing to ensure IRS systems work effectively. Updated programming ensures that qualified persons may claim the correct amount of the Child Tax Credit after comparing their 2021 advance credits, and that any residual stimulus money can be claimed as a Recovery Rebate Credit when they submit their 2021 tax return.

"Preparing for the nation's filing season is a tremendous endeavor, and IRS personnel have been working nonstop for many months to prepare," said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig. "The epidemic continues to pose obstacles, but the IRS reminds taxpayers that there are crucial measures they can take to assist guarantee that their tax return and refund are processed as soon as possible.

This year, when filing taxes online with direct payment and avoiding paper tax returns is more critical than ever. In addition, individuals who got an Economic Impact Payment or an advance Child Tax Credit last year should be given special consideration. To minimize delays, people should make sure they declare the right amount on their tax returns."

The IRS advises everyone to make sure they have all of the information they need to submit a full and correct return. Having a correct tax return will help you avoid processing delays, refund delays, and IRS notifications later on.

This is particularly significant for persons who received advance Child Tax Credit or Economic Impact Payments (American Rescue Plan stimulus payments) in 2021; the amounts of these payments will be required when submitting their tax return. The IRS is sending out special letters to beneficiaries, and they may also check their balances on IRS.gov.

Individuals submitting tax returns, as last year, will need to file a 2021 return to claim a Recovery Rebate Credit to get the tax credit from the 2021 stimulus payments or reconcile early payments of the Child Tax Credit. People who do not regularly file may also be eligible for additional credits.

Are you waiting for the processing of prior tax returns? People may still file their tax returns for 2021.

Rettig said that IRS staff are continuing to work hard on crucial areas impacted by the epidemic, such as processing tax returns from last year and fielding record numbers of phone calls.

"We are unable to provide the level of service and enforcement that our citizens and tax system deserve and need in many locations. This is infuriating for taxpayers, IRS workers, and myself "Rettig stated. "IRS workers want to do more, and we will continue to do all we can with the resources we have in 2022.

And we will keep looking for ways to improve. We aim to offer as much as possible while simultaneously safeguarding our workers' and taxpayers' health and safety. Additional resources are critical to assisting our personnel in doing more in 2022 – and beyond."

The IRS is continuing to decrease its stockpile of unprocessed prior-year individual tax returns. The IRS has processed approximately 169 million tax returns as of December 3, 2021. All paper and electronic individual 2020 refund returns submitted before to April 2021 were processed if there were no problems or the return did not need additional assessment.

Taxpayers will not have to wait for their 2020 taxes to be completely completed before filing their 2021 tax returns, and they may submit whenever they are ready. https://filemytaxesonline.org/when-can-file-my-taxes/
