Aeromexico Airlines safety rating is currently at Category 2, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This means that Mexico's aviation authority, the Agencia Federal de Aviación Civil (AFAC), does not meet all of the ICAO's safety standards. However, Aeromexico itself is still considered to be a safe airline, and it has a good safety record.
In 2021, the FAA downgraded Mexico's safety status from Category 1 to Category 2. This was due to a number of factors, including AFAC's lack of oversight of airlines, its inadequate training programs for pilots and air traffic controllers, and its poor record of maintenance.
Aeromexico has been working with AFAC to improve Mexico's safety standards, and the FAA has said that it is making progress. However, it is not clear when Mexico will be reclassified as Category 1.
